PRENATAL or Pregnancy yoga

Expecting a baby is a beautiful journey that requires a lot of care and attention from and for mamas. I’ve developed this program for expecting moms, as I practiced yoga throughout my pregnancy and found great benefit in reducing tension and stress, preparing the body for labour, improving mental, physical and emotional health, as well as having a faster recovery time.

WHY PRACtice prenatal yoga?

  • There are safety considerations for practicing yoga that a traditional yoga class may not follow. Modifications for poses are essential for ensuring safety of mom and baby. Examples include: avoiding laying flat on your back, twists that may compress your body, avoiding diastasis recti, etc.

  • Additional focus on the opening of hips, pelvis and legs, and improving posture for a more aligned structural balance for the growing body. Attention to these areas may also help with aiding the baby in an ideal “head down position” for labour.

  • Focus on relaxation, stress relief, breath work to prepare for labour and reduce tension in the pelvic floor and low back muscles.

  • Private coaching at your own comfort and pace, with no “class” pressure and having a safe and sanitary space in your own home.

  • One-on-one guidance to ensure safety and proper alignment of the body. Experience from a teacher who is knowledgeable and has had experience in prenatal fitness and yoga.

Please obtain clearance from your healthcare provider (Midwife/OB/OBGYN/Family Doctor) before your first session.

Postnatal yoga
POSTPARTUM YOGA
& RECOVERY

Postpartum yoga has been shown to decrease the risk of postpartum depression. Postnatal yoga can help you to heal, repair, and support your body after pregnancy and childbirth. Adding yoga and any physical activity to your new routine can help balance your energy, lower blood pressure, and reduce stress and anxiety. Postnatal yoga sessions focus on strengthening and toning the muscles of the pelvis and the core, regaining flexibility, as well as promoting relaxation. Healthcare providers usually recommend on average of 6 weeks or more for recovery. Please obtain clearance from your healthcare provider (Midwife/OB/OBGYN/Family Doctor) before your first session back.

All new prenatal & postnatal sessions are in-person sessions. Virtual sessions may be available depending on the comfort level of the teacher with the student’s practice and knowledge, as teacher prioritizes safety before student’s self practice and virtual-only guidance.
